Five-day excursion on the Finnmark mountain plateau

Day 1
Our guide meets you at Alta Airport. We put on winter clothes at Holmen, and go through the program for the excursion. The we drive our dog van to the Jotka lake, where the safari starts. First, we will give you a quick course in dog mushing and safety regulations; then, our journey into Finnmarksvidda begins. Each guest drives his or her own dog team. We pass Jotka¹s tourist cabin ­ the first in a string of such cabins across Finnmarksvidda, from Alta to Karasjok. We continue our journey toward the interior, and cross Jiesjavri, Finnmark¹s biggest lake. We pause to have meals around bonfires. Finally, we come to Mollisjok mountain cabin, in the Œheart¹ of Finnmarksvidda. We take care of the dogs, then have dinner, tell good stories and sleep.

Day 2
First, breakfast for our guests and the dogs; then we¹re off on a day trip in the sleds. If weather and snow conditions allow it we will try some ice fishing. We have lunch along the way. Back in Mollisjok we give our dogs their daily care, before talking about today¹s excursion. Then we have dinner, relax, and sleep.

Day 3
Breakfast is served, and then we go west to a mountain cabin near Maze. We lunch with the huskies on the way. On arrival we tie our dogs and give them their daily care. Before dinner you may relax in the sauna. We summarize today¹s trip before we go to bed.

Day 4
After breakfast, today¹s safari takes us to Jiesjavri¹s northern end, where we get a view of the beautiful ŒGaisene¹­ the tallest mountains in Finnmark. We make stop for lunch with the dogs on the way. Back in the cabin, we feed and take care of the dogs and then have dinner. We relax before going to bed.

Day 5
We eat breakfast, and then take on the last part of our journey, which takes us back to the starting point at Jotka, where we have lunch. Back by the car, we unharness the dogs and pack our equipment. At Holmen Husky you say goodbye to the dogs and your winter clothes. Finally, we celebrate the end of your great husky journey with a longed-for warm shower and a goodbye dinner.

Price: 13,900 NOK / 1,860 Euro per person, in groups of a minimum of four and a maximum of 10 guests.

The price includes:

  • Winter clothes ­ a snowmobile dress, warm boots, wool socks, mittens and
  • wool hat.
  • All meals
  • Lodging
  • Sleeping bag
  • Transport from Alta Airport and back.
