At 70° North, on the outskirts of Alta — the City of the Northern Lights — lies Holmen. A place shaped by silence, deep winters, and the steady rhythm of Alaskan huskies bred and trained for the world’s toughest long-distance races.
What began in 1986 as a family pursuit on the Finnmark plateau has grown into one of Europe’s most respected long-distance racing kennels — a living Arctic culture where life is measured in miles, weather, and care for the dogs that lead the way.
Guests stay beside the kennel in seven architect-designed Forest Suites, crafted in solid cross-laminated timber and set quietly among the pines. Contemporary Nordic design meets the raw stillness of the north. At the heart of Holmen, a restored post-war barn now houses the lodge, bathhouse, and an intimate restaurant reserved exclusively for overnight guests.
Every guest drives their own team of Alaskan Huskies.

We are mushers. This life, and these dogs, taught us everything we know. That’s why we believe in care, in quiet, in going slow. The bond between human and dog is at the heart of what we do—and everything else follows.
