April is one of the very best times to experience Finnmarksvidda. The days are long, the snow is dry and stable, and the plateau opens up in every direction. This 5-day experience is built for small groups who want to experience dog sledding properly — travelling across the landscape, living close to the dogs, and sharing time together in one of Europe’s last great wilderness areas.
The experience is led by experienced mushers who work with the dogs year-round and know the Finnmark Plateau intimately. This is not a passive tour — it’s a hands-on experience shaped by dogs, people and place.
You begin and end at Holmen Husky Lodge and spend two nights deep on the plateau at Mollisjok Fjellstue.
Each experience starts and ends at Holmen Husky Lodge, with two nights at Mollisjok Fjellstue in between.
This experience is designed for groups of up to 10 people, including:
No previous dog sledding experience is required. What matters is willingness to take part, work together and spend time outdoors.
Holmen Husky Lodge – Forest Suites
Comfortable cabins in the forest, used on the first and last night of the experience.
Mollisjok Fjellstue
A historic mountain lodge deep on Finnmarksvidda. Simple, warm cabins with fresh linen, sauna access and almost no mobile reception.

Program
The experience begins at Holmen Husky Lodge, located in the forest outside Alta. After arrival and check-in, there is time to settle in, explore the surroundings and meet your guides.
In the evening, the group gathers for dinner and a briefing about the days ahead — the dogs, the route, safety and how life on the trail works.
Overnight: Forest Suites, Holmen Husky Lodge
After breakfast, you meet the dogs and are introduced to sleds, equipment and basic handling. You’ll learn how to work with the dogs, how the sled responds, and how to cooperate as a team.
Dog sledding is done two people per sled — one steering, one assisting — switching roles during the day. Everyone takes part: harnessing, running, feeding and caring for the dogs.
The group is transported up to the plateau, where the sledding experience begins. You mush for several hours across open terrain before reaching Mollisjok Fjellstue, your base in the mountains.
After caring for the dogs, the evening is spent with dinner and rest.
Overnight: Mollisjok Fjellstue
A full day on the plateau. After feeding the dogs and breakfast, you head out on a day trip by sled, travelling deeper into the landscape.
There is time to slow down:
You return to Mollisjok in the afternoon, care for the dogs and enjoy a second evening in the mountains.
Overnight: Mollisjok Fjellstue
Mollisjok Fjellstue is a historic mountain lodge located deep on Finnmarksvidda, originally established in the late 1800s as a refuge for travellers crossing the plateau. With no road access and almost no mobile reception, it offers rare quiet and a true sense of being off-grid.
Accommodation is simple and warm, with traditional cabins, fresh linen and shared meals around the table. After long days on the sled, guests can unwind in the wood-fired sauna and, for those who wish, take an ice-cold river dip — a timeless ritual on the plateau. Spending two nights here allows time to slow down and settle into the rhythm of life on Finnmarksvidda.
After breakfast and packing, you set off on your final sledding stage across the plateau.
Lunch is enjoyed on the trail before transport back down to Holmen Husky Lodge. After two nights of simple mountain life, returning to the Forest Suites feels like a natural transition.
The final evening is shared together at the lodge — dinner, time to talk and space to reflect on the experience.
Overnight: Forest Suites, Holmen Husky Lodge
After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye — to the dogs, the guides and the landscape you’ve crossed together.

What our guests say
Such an incredible 4 day experience. To travel through the Arctic Tundra on a sledge being pulled by the most enthusiastic and incredible dogs was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever done. It’s hard to find words to describe the sheer beauty of it all.

Fantastic 3-day sledding tour with Huskies over the Finnsmark Plateau. We booked through Much Better Advetures in the U.K. and had the most fabulous experience. Every aspect was above expectations from the accommodation, the food, the transport and the adventure.

We had an amazing 4 days husky experience, the dogs are simply amazing, awesome guides and views that are simply beyond belief. To sledge across the arctic tundra being pulled by the most beautiful dogs who truly love being on the sledge is priceless and a memory that will stay with me forever!

Went on the group 4 day husky sledding experience. It was an incredible time. From food to accommodation everything was done in a way that you could tell they really care about creating a nice experience. Also felt like we were in very good hands and the staff were very nice and helpful,

Dogsledding is by far "the activity" you should try if visiting Northern Norway, and Holmen Husky is the right provider! Enjoyed it so much, loveble huskies and very friendly and knowledgeble guides. Bravo!
We weren't sure what to expect but we wanted to have an inroad into the husky lifestyle and experience. We chose well. Beautifully committed and passionate guides and facilitators made this experience a highlight of our full holiday experience. You get to ride the sleigh in train formation, we did a night and morning run and enjoyed both for different reasons. Do the night one first and marvel at where you were the next time.
